Spa Enhancements Explained: What They Are and Which to Add

Spa treatment at Best Estie Day Spa in Mesa, Arizona

An enhancement is the easiest way to change what a massage or facial actually does for you, and most guests do not realize how much it changes the session. Here is what each one is and how to think about picking one.

An Enhancement Is Added Into Your Session, Not After It

This is the part that surprises people. An enhancement is not a separate appointment and it does not extend your booking. It is worked into your existing 50 minute massage or facial, so the therapist or esthetician builds it into the flow of the treatment rather than bolting it on at the end.

That is why guests often add one or two without the session feeling rushed. You are not trading time for the enhancement. You are changing what happens during the time you already booked.

Massage Enhancements

Hot stone — heated basalt stones incorporated into your massage to melt tension and allow deeper work. Good if your muscles guard against pressure before they warm up. +$25

Lomi lomi — traditional Hawaiian technique using long, rhythmic flowing strokes with coconut oil. Continuous and wave-like rather than segmented. +$25

Cupping — suction cups lift tissue for deep focal work, added to your existing massage. Works from the opposite direction of hands-on pressure. +$25

CBD oil — THC-free CBD oil worked into focal areas during your massage. +$25

Reiki and energy healing — energy work using crystals, singing bowls or tuning forks, incorporated into your service. +$25

Hot and cold muscle therapy — menthol and hot towels alternated during your massage to soothe sore muscles. +$20

Aromatherapy — over fifteen essential oils to choose from, added to any massage or facial. The least expensive way to change the character of a session. +$15

Facial and Skin Care Enhancements

LED light therapy, high frequency, microcurrent, enzyme exfoliants, eye and lip treatments, and brow and lash tinting can all be added to any facial. There is also an advanced booster retinol mask and a coconut oil scalp massage.

These let your esthetician push a facial further toward one specific goal rather than keeping it general.

How to Pick One

Do not decide in advance. Tell your therapist or esthetician what is going on that day and let them suggest what fits. Someone who arrives with a locked-up shoulder gets a different recommendation than someone who has not slept well in a week, and the person working on you can tell the difference once they have hands on it.

If you already know what you want, mention it when you call so it can be noted on the booking.
